Over the next few weeks, I plan to hit Wintergate Crossing, Longmeade Crossing, Park Vista Drive, Barn Ridge Lane, and many more side streets.
I have been walking from house to house and tucking the flyers in mailboxes and flagging down passer-bys and drivers to introduce myself and raise awareness about my campaign. I'm thrilled to say that the response has been nothing short of phenomenal and encouraging.
Pasted below is the flyer that I created and have been passing out all over the area. It is chock-full of useful contacts for the Maryland State Highway Administration, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, and the Montgomery County Executive and Councilmember. I wanted to upload the flyer in a WORD file to the blog, but it does not offer that feature.
But you can e-mail me at norbeckroad@gmail.com and I will gladly e-mail back with copies of the flyer attached and you can print or forward to your neighbors and friends.
If you see me passing out flyers, please say hello and introduce yourself! :-)

Norbeck Road Blog
Welcome to the Norbeck Road Blog, which was launched online this summer and is intended to bring awareness to the safety problems on Norbeck Road (MD-28) between Georgia Ave (MD-97) and Layhill Road (MD-182) in Silver Spring, Maryland, especially for pedestrians and bicyclists who have no means of traveling safely on this route.
With the Intercounty Connector (ICC) nearing completion in 2012 and already causing traffic woes on Norbeck Road, our best chance of getting a pedestrian-bike path is through the Montgomery County Council. Everyone who lives near Norbeck Road should contact Councilmembers Nancy Navarro (240-777-715) and Marc Elrich (240-777-7960) to demand that the County upgrade Norbeck Road in the near future with a pedestrian-bike path.
Since pedestrians and bicyclists are our most vulnerable road users, they need to be protected at all costs, more so when you consider that children, teenagers, and many adults, seniors, and persons with disabilities may not be able to drive and constitute a large proportion of non-motorized travel. They would appreciate the opportunity to travel safely on a pedestrian-bike path to reach the Norbeck Kiss-and-Ride Bus Lot, the Leisure World Shopping Center, the Norbeck Recreational Park, and the new ICC bike trail.
In fact, the availability of a pedestrian-bike path on Norbeck Road would be a win-win for everyone. Motorists would not have to worry about swerving around pedestrians and bicyclists in the road. Meanwhile, residents would feel safer walking and biking and do so in higher numbers, helping to reduce gas consumption, traffic congestion, and accidents. Also, property values could benefit as well.
A pedestrian-bike path on Norbeck Road is a no-brainer. Let's convince Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Marc Elrich to make Norbeck Road safer and more accessible to our children, families, friends, and neighbors for walking and biking. That's the goal of this campaign!
Thanks for your support,
Jesse and Davida
