Want to explore this beautiful area by foot or bike?

The Matthew Henson Trail in nearby Layhill
The nation will celebrate its independence on July 4th with fireworks and barbecue gatherings.

Let's use this occassion to celebrate our independence from automobiles, even for one hour in the day.  But that's an impossible feat for most residents along Norbeck Road since there are no pedestrian-bike paths anywhere.  Instead, residents must get in their cars to drive elsewhere to shop, socialize, entertain, exercise, explore, or even commune with nature.

Wouldn't it be liberating and convenient to leave your house, walk past your parked car in the driveway, and head straight for a nearby recreational path without having to get in the car to drive elsewhere such as to the wonderful Matthew Henson State Park Trail at Layhill and Middlevale Road?

Are you fed up with having to get in the car to drive everywhere, even to exercise?  Are you sick of slogging through mud, debris, tall grass, and/or uneven ground next to Norbeck Road.  Are you terrified about getting hit by cars and trucks as you try to travel on foot or bike in the road?  Are you nervous about trespassing or traipsing through people's front yards just to avoid Norbeck Road as I have many times?

Then pick up the phone and call Jeremy Beck, SHA's Project Engineer, at 410-545-8518 or via email at jbeck@sha.state.md.us.  Please leave a message voicing your support and demand for a pedestrian and bike path on Norbeck Road that would ensure the safety, mobility, and fitness of our residents and children for generations to come.

It's my dream that we and our families can safely stroll on a pedestrian and bike path along Norbeck Road and take great pleasure in the beautiful scenery and wildlife diversity of our heavily wooded area.
