Pedestrian injuries from striking vehicles

Suffered black eye, forehead gash, and bruises
Ever wonder what it's like to get hit by a vehicle while walking or biking?

What kind of injuries could a pedestrian suffer in such an accident?

Ponder no more!  Check out these pictures of injuries sustained by Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon who was jogging near her home in Santa Monica, California, when she got hit by a car that failed to yield to her in an unmarked crosswalk.

Fortunately, the vehicle was traveling at a leisurely 20 mph.  But at that speed, the vehicle was still able to inflict quite a bit of damage to Ms. Witherspoon's trademark face.

She sustained a black eye, a noticeable gash on her forehead, and a big bruise on her shoulder.

I shudder to think what would've happened had the vehicle been traveling faster at 40-50 mph as is typical on Norbeck Road where we live.

This is another reason to contact Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Navarro at 240-777-7968  and urge her to get separate and dedicated paved bike paths built on Norbeck Road to ensure that everyone can travel safely regardless of their transportation mode.

She was enjoying her daily jog when she was hit by a car leaving her with a bruised and cut face and a nasty black eye.

And after two weeks of convalescing from
the shock and her injuries, Reese Witherspoon was back out on the pavements again as she pulled on her trainers and went for a run.

The actress, 35, was snapped yesterday in her jogging gear as she pounded the streets near her Los Angeles home.

Her injuries from the accident were all too clear to see, her black eye still bruised and a plaster on her forehead masking a nasty graze.

But as she pushed her sunglasses back off her face, she flashed a big smile at the cameras, showing that she is starting to heal nicely and was not going to let the accident stand in the way of her exercise regime.

It is not the first time that Reese has been seen with her bruises since the accident happened on September 7.

But it was her first run since the accident on September 7 when she was hit by an 84-year-old lady who was travelling at 20mph when she failed to stop for the actress as she jogged over a pedestrian crossing on the 20th street and Georgina Avenue area of Santa Monica.

Reese was left shaken and bruised and a source close to the actress told Us: 'The whole incident really frightened her.

'The odd thing about all of this is that Reese has always been very afraid of being hit by a car.

It's been an ongoing fear of hers. She is always the first person to pull people away from the edge of the curb.'

It has emerged that Reese will not be pressing charges against the woman.
